The Institute for International Health and Development is an Institute of Queen Margaret University focused on post-graduate education, research and technical assistance to development agencies and governments. Our focus is on the social determinants of health in globally and locally marginalised populations. IIHD was established in 1983 as the Centre for International Health Studies and gained Institute status within the University in 2004.
Directed by new Director Alistair Ager ( from July 2015), IIHD works for a fairer and healthier world through research and postgraduate teaching. Develop your professional skills, increase your knowledge, contribute to the global evidence base and share experiences from around the world!
IIHD offers research opportunities for academic researchers or practitioners to work on issues of real importance in social justice linked to health, in the challenges of post-conflict environments and in the exploration of helping health systems respond to the challenges of the new century, globalisation and health sector reform.
